The Women’s Culturally Responsive Recovery Services (WCRRS)

The Women’s Culturally Responsive Recovery Services (WCRRS) aim to provide culturally responsive, family-centred, and trauma-informed Substance Use Disorder (SUD) services and education for pregnant and parenting women, their children, and families within spiritual and faith-based communities. This program ensures that women and their families who may not typically access formal treatment services can receive the support and education they need by fostering partnerships between formal SUD providers and spirituality/faith-based communities.

Community-Driven Approach: This program is delivered through a series of workshops incorporating feedback from Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) and additional needs identified by providers representing BIPOC communities.
Workshop Topics: Workshops will cover various topics, including parenting, mental health, SUDs, harm reduction, school readiness, resume building, job search skills, financial literacy, budgeting, career exploration, goal setting, empowerment and leadership development, nutrition, health, and wellness.

The goal of these workshops is to examine the relationship between substance abuse, mental health, and trauma, identify signs of substance use, provide coping strategies, and ways to connect individuals with their faith and recovery.
Outreach and Awareness Campaign: Conduct outreach and awareness campaigns within the community on SUDs through community-specific channels, faith-based organizations, social media platforms, and word-of-mouth referrals. These efforts will be culturally competent and conducted in appropriate languages for the African community.

Overall Goal: The primary goal of the WCRRS project is to reduce the impacts of SUDs on African immigrant communities in Rochester, MN. This will be achieved by raising awareness, enhancing prevention efforts, and providing culturally responsive SUD services. The program aims to improve mental health, enhance resilience, and strengthen family bonds.

Target Population: African immigrants from various countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, Togo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gambia, Somalia, Liberia, Sudan, Ethiopia, and other regions across the African continent. Nobody will be denied service even when you are out side our target population.r Igbo community! Please visit MDR at https://www.revenue.state.mn.us to see if you quality for tax credits this season.
